The DIN 96 style panel meter comprises permanent magnet moving coil movement and indicates an average value. The movement consists of a magnet, an aluminium coil suspended on pivots, a hairspring and a jewel mechanism. The scales are linear and calibrated down to zero. High currents are measured with separate shunts attached to the rear side of the meter.
